CLPE is Awarded Owner’s Representation Services for the AABC Integrated Microgrid Clean Energy Project

CLP Engineering, LLC (CLPE) was awarded the Owner’s Representation Services Phase 1A and 1B with Pitkin County to support the development of an integrated microgrid clean energy project in the Aspen Airport Business Center (AABC) area. The microgrid will support several public facilities in the area, including Aspen’s airport, Pitkin County’s public works facility, Roaring Fork Transit Authority (RFTA) facility, an animal center, and several other smaller facilities in the vicinity. The main footprint of the proposed microgrid is roughly three miles outside of Aspen.

A microgrid is a combination of localized electrical loads and generations that can be islanded by means of smart switching and operated to maintain the electrical power supply when the greater grid experiences an outage. A functional microgrid requires an adequate local energy supply for the loads within the microgrid boundary while maintaining voltage and frequency requirements of the power supply.

Over the past few years, the project went through several preliminary planning and feasibility studies. Recently, the project also received a Colorado State Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) grant.

CLPE is responsible for acting as an owner’s technical representative, helping with final planning, preliminary design, specifications, and technical documentation to Pitkin County in support of their procurement and construction efforts. 

CLPE is an engineering firm with experience in planning and designing electric distribution systems including on-site energy generation, energy storage, and infrastructure upgrades, as well as supporting procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of microgrid components.
